How to Conduct Usability Testing Workshop

This usability testing training day is for people who have a basic understanding of user experience (UX). This training takes a process approach: participants will plan out a study, determine how best to recruit participants, practice conducting usability sessions, and learn how to analyze and present findings effectively.

Attendees will get personalized 1:1 coaching from Jen Romano and Cory Lebson and will work in teams and learn from classmates as well.

Learning Objectives:

When participants have completed this training, they will be able to:

  • Determine the best approach for finding representative participants and how to incentivize them

  • Create a participant screener

  • Create a detailed study plan

  • Generate a detailed script to use in the session, including the specific questions you will ask

  • Conduct in-depth 1:1 usability sessions

  • Understand how to analyze and report findings from usability test sessions

  • Understand how AI can add value to the process, from generating materials to analyzing data

BONUS: Participants will have templates they can use over and over again!

Participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the day.

Jen and Cory

Jen Romano, Ph.D. is an Experiential Design Leader, UX Research Strategist (prior Google, Facebook, Instagram), instructor at UC Berkeley Extension, instructor at the University of Maryland, and UXR Coach. Jen teaches graduate-level classes, trains UX professionals, and coaches people who are entering the field. Jen is passionate about training the BEST researchers in the world, and this retreat is one of many ways she is accomplishing this mission.

Jen is an established leader in the UX field: She is the founder of the mentorship program, webinar program, and short course program for the User Experience Professional Association (UXPA) and is a Board Member of the UX Quality Certification Center (UXQCC).

Jen is a published writer, and some of her books include: Modern Socio-Technical Perspectives on Privacy, Usability Testing for Survey Research, Eye Tracking in User Experience Design.

Cory Lebson, author of The UX Careers Handbook Second Edition and a LinkedIn Learning Instructor, has been a user experience researcher and consultant since 1994. He established Lebsontech in 1997, and in 2008, transformed this side-business into a full-time occupation.

Cory also greatly enjoys teaching topics related to user experience and conducts regular talks and workshops. He has been featured on the radio and has published a number of recent articles. Cory has an MBA in marketing and technology management, as well as an MA in sociology and a BS in psychology. He is a former president of both the User Experience Professionals Association (UXPA) International and the Washington DC chapter of UXPA.
